Hi World!
It was a trip with my grandparents when I was 16 years old that would influence my relationship with nature for the rest of my life.
In the span of a few weeks, I was exposed to The Grand Canyon, Lake Tahoe, and the giant redwood forests of California. The one place that struck me most though, was Yosemite National Park. Between the incredible views, the seemingly limitless wilderness outside our cabin door and seeing the works of Ansel Adams, I was hooked.
Fast forward to today, living in North Central Florida, I am again surrounded by natural beauty that is waiting to be shared. The award winning beaches, the secretive Cypress domes, the plethora of wild places hidden just out of view… They all wait to be seen, photographed and shared.
My art is about the experience of being in nature. Sometimes I am overwhelmed with the grandeur of a scene. Other times it’s the simple detail like how a particular flower is lit by the setting sun. Sometimes it’s not awe or beauty, but an eerie feeling of “otherness” that strikes when shooting in a secluded swamp an hour after sunset.
I've recently begun exploring other ways to express my creativity. Sometimes, it's not about what's going on in the outside world - it's about what's going on inside us. In my "Outside The Box" series, you can see some of the results of that exploration as well.
Behind all of my work is a deep seated spiritual connection. When I'm out in nature, I'm not only exploring the physical spaces before me. I'm seeking to discover and learn from the spirit of the place. The feeling of connection - the energies that can be contained within a meadow or a tree or a lake - they draw me to them and I seek to commune with them and depict some of that conversation in my work. In my studio work, photographing trails of incense smoke, I seek to divine the messages held within those shapes and draw out the story held within. Old buildings have a story of their own, and opening myself up to the past contained behind closed doors can allow me to get in touch with something across the veil of time and history.
With a variety of top quality, archival materials available for printing, I offer these works so that everyone can bring the feeling of nature home.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
