A story of mystery in the mist...
Sometimes, being out in the rain can bring a special kind of feeling, especially when you find yourself deep in a forest, in magical soft light, surrounded by nothing but the sounds of water dripping, frogs chirping and the occasional call of a heron.
A cool December morning found me exploring this flooded stand of oak trees. Nestled between cypress strands happily growing in the waters of two small lakes, this stand of oak trees found themselves part of the swamp, as the waters had risen to connect the two bodies of water into one larger lake. The morning was quiet and calm and led me to a reflective mood.
Do the trees know they are suddenly submerged? If they could move, would they? What will happen to them if the water stays this high? Will they fail and die? Will they adapt and flourish?
Scenes like this sometimes raise more questions than the answers they can provide.
