Near St. Augustine, Florida
Created during a Father's Day trip with my son, we explored the beaches near St. Augustine and found these coquina outcroppings. These are the same stones used to construct the famous Castillo de San Marcos. Formed from the crushed fragments of the shells of sea creatures, coquina was mined nearby for the construction of the fort in the late 1600s. These formations could be the result of frequent hurricanes tossing them about and depositing them on shore.
Captured here before the sunrise in June of 2019, this beach scene may never be seen again. Frequent storms, constantly changing shoreline and the variability of time and tides cause the coastline to be always changing and makes each moment unique in it's own way.
